Summary

context

A stamp on the first page of the book you loaned to your friend will always be a reminder: “return this to (your name here) after you finish reading!” It is the perfect way to assign your name to your book collection, as well as provide them with a personal touch. Regardless of how “neat” or “messy” the stamp may be, it was carved and stamped with love and intention. Customize Your Collection, a short motion piece dedicated to explaining the creation of a books stamp, aims to invoke a sense of warmth and personality through its filming, editing, and typography.

It was important to me that the setting of the video felt inviting. Lighting is warm, as opposed to cool and clinical. The setting, on top of a vintage wooden chest, feels well-loved with its obvious wear. The usage of old books lets the viewer know that this collection holds importance to the carver, as they appear well kept even in their old age.
The editing of the video itself mimics something imperfect yet still cherished. Typography is completely written by hand to emphasize the handcrafted nature of stamp creation. Music is playful and a little peculiar, an improvised jazz piece that goes hand in hand with the actions to carve.
